About

Althea de Guzman is an extremely enthusiastic worker with a resourcefulness that allows her to undertake any challenge with which she is faced. At her core, she is a student of all disciplines: her life pursuit is simply to learn. She received her undergraduate degree from American University in International Economic Policy with a minor in Business Administration. This minor brought her into the field of commercial real estate for the next few years, but she intended to return to school to refocus her career on public health and safety.

At present, she is a Master’s Candidate for Threat and Response Management (Emergency Management) at The University of Chicago. In addition to the regular coursework, she was selected for the Leadership through Crisis Program, which partners with the Cook County Department of Homeland Security to ensure local leaders are adequately prepared. She has also taken classes for an Environmental Technician program to receive certifications in: HAZWOPER, RCRA Generator, Environmental Law and Advanced Air Monitoring.

Althea works full time as a Project Coordinator at The University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. Her promotion sponsors her simultaneous enrollment in a Project Management program also offered by the Graham School. Additionally, she will begin work at Argonne National Laboratory as a Research Aide alongside her professor in the field of infrastructure assurance.

Upon graduation, she intends to process her paperwork through MEPS to join the National Guard. In the meantime, she is a volunteer working with the Chicago Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Althea is committed to a lifelong career in the field of Emergency Management.
