About

I started my college career at University of Illinois at Chicago and am committed to returning because of the excellence of the nursing program and UIC’s vision in global health care and diversity. Even after having to leave UIC after being ill I continued going to school and worked multiple jobs while maintaining my honors status. I know that any goal worth having means dedication. My jobs in the healthcare field as a CNA and a phlebotomist allowed me to have direct patient contact and has solidified my decision to become a nurse. These job experiences and my perspective as a patient will make me a better nurse. The hard work and perseverance I put in to get here will help me get through nursing school and become a better nurse after graduation. My organization and my ability to juggle multiple responsibilities will benefit me in my nursing career as most of a nurse’s day is multitasking.

Goals and interests

Career goal

After becoming a nurse I hope to work in the emergency department. I like to keep busy and I like the fact that you have the potential to see something new every day. During my nursing career I want to help shape innovative policies and programs of patient care. I want to be a leader, an advocate, and an educator, not just with patients, but within my community and the world at large. After some experience, I want to travel and provide healthcare to people around the world.

Outside the classroom

Some nurses can get burned out from the stress so I understand the need for relaxation and fun. I enjoy a variety of creative activities such as music, ceramics, yoga, and baking. I spend time with family and friends and enjoy traveling. I am interested in pursuing more classes in sign language and Spanish so I can become fluent, but think these may have to wait until I am done with nursing school.
