Outside the classroom

Delving into the realm of women's history has become a true passion of mine. It's captivating to uncover the stories of incredible women who, despite facing significant societal barriers, carved out remarkable achievements in every field imaginable. Learning about their resilience, ingenuity, and unwavering spirit in the face of gender adversity is not only inspiring but also provides a crucial understanding of the progress we've made and the work that still lies ahead.

Volunteering

  • For 2 years I have participated in the See, Test, Treat event hosted by the College of American Pathologists involving uninsured and underinsured women between the ages of 30 and 64 receiving free cervical cancer screenings (Pap tests) with same day results. I was responsible for processing all pap smears, accessioning and assisting in reporting results to cytopathologists. I also volunteered for a Cell Block project that involved A combination of minor procedure changes aimed to decrease tissue dispersion across the slide, thereby decreasing time required to identify diagnostic cells. I was responsible for processing all cell blocks and contributing ideas to improve the outcome of cell blocks using varying methods under the guidance of Dr. Gillam. This has prepared me for a wide range of career's by not only utilizing but enhancing my technical, problem solving and teamwork skills that are important.
