About

Hello, I am Amberly Kristina McManus and I am currently earning my masters in social work at Eastern Washington University. My education background so far has focused on psychology and social injustice. My bachelors of science in psychology and minor in political science marries well with my studies in social work. Alongside earning my MSW, I am also obtaining an addiction studies certificate and a graduate palliative care certificate. I have work and volunteer experience mostly in social services and mental health treatment. Populations I have served vary from adolescents in foster care, children with autism spectrum disorder, adults on behavioral health units, and individuals with life limiting illnesses. Ethics, compassion, communication, mindfulness, balance, flexibility, humor, open mindednesses and teamwork are all skills I value and find essential in my work with those I serve. I currently work in a psychiatric facility where I provide direct care to patients receiving mental health treatment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on their treatment plan. I know my studies and work experience are broad, but all these experiences I have found essential in providing holistic services. Above all else, my favorite title I hold is mom and wife. My family is my strength, support and motivation through my schooling, career journey and life.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My intended job path is to become a social worker in the hospital setting and serve those in need at a micro level. By working with individuals and families, I know this experience will reveal to me where improvements can be made in social welfare and policies. With the experience of being on the front lines of working with marginalized populations, I intend to provide powerful testimonies to influence legislation.
