Goals and interests
- Career goal
I am pursuing my Associates degree in Human Services, then I would like to transfer to complete my bachelor’s in Criminal Justice. I am chasing a career that does not have enough investment into it. I have loved working with troubled or at-risk teens and helping them to realize the amazing abilities and talents they each possess. I thrive on the ability to help others reach their full potential and seeing them succeed when the odds are against them. I solely believe that each person is capable of greatness if they have the opportunity to flourish. I am interested in helping to provide that opportunity.
- Graduate school interests
The career I am dreaming for would be a caseworker/advisor/mentor all rolled up into one. The goal would be to bridge the gap between society and success. I want to help the students who are in the legal system and provide them guidance and support while working with them during a “second-chance” type program. Removing labels inflicted by the Court system and providing tools for success through education of life, soft and coping skills, to be able to independently handle individual barriers to some of life’s biggest struggles and decreasing barriers preventing students from otherwise being able to achieve those goals. Empowering and educating each student to have the strength, confidence, and resources to succeed.
- Outside the classroom
Outside of my school hours, my family and I keep busy. I work full-time as a Special Education Paraprofessional at our local high school. I recently joined Phi Theta Kappa and the National Society of Leadership and Success and look forward to becoming an inducted member to both. I have four children and we are typically always on the go; however, Covid-19 has thrown in some changes for us this year. Typically, our weeks would be filled with activities from basketball to football, from to cheer leading to choir, from Lego club to investor's club, there was never a shortage of things we had to do. We have had to get a little creative with some of our hobbies, especially having an immunocompromised daughter. Now we try spending as much time as we can outdoors, whether it be biking, hiking, or fishing, we manage to always find something fun to occupy our time. We also enjoy participating in fundraising events, like the Dirty Fit Kid Challenge for Tomorrow's Hope, the Autism Speaks 5k, and the Walk to end Alzheimer's.
My family and I try to actively participate in community events and fundraisers, whether it be gathering items for foods drives or school supplies or going through clothes and toys we know would get better use from someone else. We also enjoy making things at home to give to others to show our appreciation. I think it is important to be able to provide support to your community if you are able, and I also feel it teaches my children an amazing life lesson that they will carry with them for years to come.
