About
Hi! My name is Angelique Edwards. I am a dreamer, optimist, and activist. I have a passion for human rights and social justice and intend to make a difference in this realm by focusing on non-traditional security challenges. I am a student at the Georgia Institute of Technology with a major in International Affairs and Spanish. I have been awarded faculty honors two terms in a row, for my 4.0 GPA and I strive for excellence in everything that I do. In my International Affairs degree, I aim to focus in international security and global development. I have begun my work in this arena outside the classroom as a research intern for the International Human Trafficking Institute, a program of the Center for Civil and Human Rights in downtown Atlanta, GA. As a delved deeper into illegal trafficking as a non-traditional security challenge I had a desire to study abroad and learn more from a global perspective. This Summer I studied abroad in Southeast Asia on a program focused on analyzing the non-traditional security issues prevalent in the region. As a Spanish major as well, I have a strong interest in Latin American culture and am fluent in the language. I have done of my community service in the Latin community, by tutoring young immigrants how hoe to read and write. I find great importance in community and am therefore very involved in school. As a freshman, I was selected for the most competitive Freshman Leadership Organization, a member of Student Government, a worker for the college of computing in teaching elementary school student about STEM, and leader on the service project for the Black History Month Committee of the African American Student Union. As a sophomore, I look forward to working as a resident assistant for the department of housing along with continuing participation in many of the same organizations.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
With interest in human rights, specifically stemming from non-traditional security issues such as illegal trafficking, I hope to do research, and work in these fields through the US State Department. After undergraduate school, I plan to study human rights law at a premiere law school. This will give me the knowledge base, work ethic, and credibility as I get further in my career. Right after law school, I see myself working in the office to combat human trafficking in the United States State department as a first step. I just completed a research internship for the International Human Trafficking Institute, a program of the Center of Civil and Human Rights in Georgia, where I worked as the center's youngest employee. This work experience solidified my desire to take the above career path.
- Graduate school interests
I would like to study human rights law at one of these premiere law school:
Yale Law School
Harvard Law School
Columbia Law School
Georgetown Law School- Outside the classroom
I love to have fun and spend time with people. My family and close friends mean the world to me. To relieve stress, I work out so this is one of my daily hobbies. I have been a tennis player since fifth grade and continue to enjoy playing the sport. I love to travel and have been all over the world including Latin America, Africa, and all over Asia. I just love enjoying life, laughing, and making people’s day.
