Angelo Moreno

Currently, I am a junior at the University of Nevada Reno and I am majoring in social work. I do have a minor in psychology as well. I graduated high school in 2020 with a College and Career ready diploma. I have always admired all kinds of people and I have always wanted to work with people from all kinds of backgrounds. My admiration for community and people still continue to grow. As I have became and still continue to become older, I have been more exposed to the importance of an individuals mental health, especially when it comes down to their overall health and future wellbeing. I really admire mental health and would love to become a sort of school counselor one day that focuses on an individuals mental health and their wellbeing. I do want to and plan on pursuing my masters degree after I graduate with my bachelors degree. I am both very excited and grateful to have been apart of such a community of social work thus far. Being able to begin expressing who I truly am to this community and world, while also carefully creating opportunities that’ll make a difference for the lives of many others, motivates me even more to continue this social work life path that I am ambitiously working towards. I decided to move out to Reno, Nevada in 2020 purely for my education and to pursue college. I also made the sacrifice of leaving my entire family back in Las Vegas, Nevada (my hometown). Since I have moved out here to Reno, I have experienced a lot of things that I never quite thought about before I did move out. I do have seizures too at times, and they ironically began around the time I prepared to leave for college (when I was 18 years of age). My seizures have genuinely opened my mindset and the eyes that I have so much toward life itself, while also showing me the true importance of expressing the appreciation for everything that will inevitably come one’s (my) way. My seizures are honestly a huge reason why I chose to pursue the field of social work and want to go the direction of purely trying to help others; Giving individuals lives that are easier and more meaningful to roll through. Being so far away from my whole family these last few years now too, it has truly shown me how important the built relationships and connections are in the life of an individual, especially having those such built relationships and connections maintained and cherished throughout the long term. I will always appreciate and admire the knowledge and progress that will come from the continuous experience of life. Thank you!!
