About

My academic path has been shaped by resilience, adaptability, and a lifelong commitment to medicine. I began my studies at a medical university in Perm, Russia, completing two years of coursework grounded in the natural sciences and early clinical training. My journey took an unexpected turn when I was selected through the U.S. Green Card lottery, granting me the opportunity to immigrate to the United States. Rather than viewing this transition as a setback, I embraced it as a chance to rebuild my academic path toward the same goal that first drew me to medicine: becoming a doctor. I enrolled at Gateway Community College in New Haven, Connecticut, where I have been rebuilding my foundation in the sciences. I am now transferring to the University of Connecticut to complete my bachelor's degree in Biology, after which I plan to apply to medical school once again and continue pursuing the career I began years ago on a different continent. This journey across two countries and two educational systems has given me a rare perspective on medicine and an unshakable determination to complete what I started. With the support of this scholarship, I hope to continue moving forward on this path, one step closer to becoming the physician I have worked toward for years.

Outside the classroom

Outside of my academic pursuits, I have a deep passion for the arts and the outdoors. I began studying ballet at the age of three and continued dancing through high school and even during medical school, which taught me discipline, focus, and the importance of dedicating years of practice to mastering a craft, qualities I now bring to my academic work. I was also involved in theatre throughout high school and medical school, which strengthened my confidence, communication skills, and ability to connect with and understand people from different perspectives. In addition to the arts, I find balance and renewal in nature, and hiking has become one of my favorite ways to disconnect, reflect, and recharge. I also enjoy organizing events and holidays, bringing people together and creating meaningful experiences for family and friends, something that reflects my enjoyment of connecting with others and building community.
