I am currently Liberal Arts student at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa. I am studying in Social Work, in hopes of opening up transitional homes across Iowa. My whole life has filled with many obstacles, starting with my mother going to prison when I was two days old. When she was released we lived in many different shelters. As I got older, I still had stability problems, with no places to go. My mind was set on opening up places that people like me could go to. I don't want to just give people a place to stay, but also truly help the causes of the problems that a lot of people have. By me going to school I will be able to obtain the knowledge and resources necessary to truly be a helping hand to the community. While enrolled in school at Hawkeye I plan to start a club for students who need or want emotional support. It will be a personal development/motivational group for students who need help setting goals, maintaining goals, need guidance in believing in themselves, or just need a good support system.
