Anteshia Pitts

I am a single mother of 3 and just recently started going back to school after a 17-year break. I have always had a love for learning and in high school, I was on the honor roll almost every year graduated high school with a 3.8 and received the President's Award. I was taking college classes my senior year and I had headed away from home to the University of Kentucky to pursue pre-pharmacy. I would soon start to discover that I had a problem, not only was my choice in men diluted but I would also use that as an excuse to run and drink. I then created a problem that I would continue to battle off and on for 17 years. Now sober for what is almost two years I have a new respect, admiration, and dedication to the field of Human Services. Being able to be on the other side and to get the opportunity to help others just like me has been beyond anything that I would have imagined. I am now a Peer Support Specialist for a treatment center that helped save my life and others. I am also an alumnus of The Healing Place and a General Service Representative for my homegroup. I plan to finish my associate in Human Services and then get my bachelor's and my master's and eventually doctorate in Social Work. I also am a domestic violence survivor and one day I would like to see how I could bring about another program in my community suited to help this population.
