About
Hello! My name is April Barnes. I have attempted to finish my bachelor’s degree for almost 23 years. I attended a few community colleges and two online schools, and as always, life has gotten in the way of me finishing. I enjoy learning new and exciting things, but what I find challenging is finding that balance between work, family, and school obligations.
I was born and raised in Illinois. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my high school sweetheart, Charles, and our 3 daughters, Autumn (14), Skylar (10), and Summer (9). I enjoy going to church and bible study and having bible study at home with my family. My family is a huge Transformers, Marvel, and DC Comic family. My children hold a special place in my heart, so showing them my perseverance attitude will, hopefully, keep them motivated on their own personal goals and successes.
I am obtaining my degree because I want to finish what I have started. I don’t want to leave any stones left unturned. I decided to attend Grand Canyon University because I felt the passion a friend of mind, and GCU alum, had when she spoke so highly of the university. I knew that I wanted to attend a school that had an online learning component, and the bonus of GCU having the Christian emphasis made the decision very easy to make. With my degree, I hope to be the face of change in the lives of children. I believe that if I can impact one child’s life, the love, and care that I give, will spread to those that are around/in the child’s life, therefore, spreading and constantly being reproduced.
I know that it is only by God’s grace, that I am pushing myself into greatness!

Goals and interests
- Career goal
I currently work as a Lead Teacher in a preschool program with two-year-olds. I have mainly worked in Early Childhood and Elementary education since I was 16 years old, which has been 25 years already. I love my current job. To be able to assist in the learning, growth, and development of young people is by far my truest delight. The job/career that I hope to obtain my degree is to become a kindergarten teacher in an underprivileged elementary school.
- Outside the classroom
I enjoy worshipping, loving, and serving God, spending time with my family, and reading.
