About

My current academic program is helping me develop into a nurse educator, a role that can be found in an academic or healthcare organization setting. One of the aspects a nurse educator performs is to facilitate a learning environment to nurses at different stages of their nursing career, whether they are nursing students or experienced nurses. The nurse educator also assesses and evaluates for areas that have improved or need improvement. While attending classes, I work full-time on a critical care unit at a community hospital. I perform nursing care to critical care patients with varying diagnoses. They included sepsis, cardiac arrest, stroke, traumatic brain injury, COVID, etc. I maintained my high GPA to be invited into the nursing honor society. Some accomplishments I fulfilled the past couple of years were obtaining certification in critical care nursing and completing a step in my organization’s clinical ladder for professional development. One accomplishment that is highly regarded was being nominated by a patient for a Daisy Award. This nomination meant that a patient took the time to write about my amazing care practice in helping them improve from their condition. In addition to a curriculum development of neurocritical care fundamentals for new hires, other areas of my program addressed social justice, population health, informatics, leadership, and research. I also participated in fieldwork. This “hands-on” experience enabled me to use skills that I had and skills that I learned to work with undergraduate students in an online environment.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My current job path is to work as an educator preferably in a hospital setting. From what I have researched, a nurse educator can work on professional development to a specific nursing unit or nursing specialty. Others have functioned in general nursing education for the organization. I noticed an educator for nursing informatics has not been established so I am hoping this could be a nursing area I could potentially pioneer. If not, an option could be an educator in critical care nursing.
