Goals and interests
- Career goal
I intend to use my musical background and historical knowledge to create research on late 20th century and millennial popular African American music. I hope to craft relevant content that addresses recent Black music's role in American culture within its majority and minority communities.
- Graduate school interests
During graduate school, my focuses have been on African American studies, global studies, women and gender history, sexual history, cultural history, and hip-hop history. I've used theories and methodologies across these fields to produce interdisciplinary analyses of Black music history (especially hip-hop history) that consider the sources as crucial social commentary on Black identity formation and youth culture.
