Azaria Ferguson

I am currently a Biological Science student at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. I am on my journey to becoming a Pediatrician. I grew up in a town within Miami called Kendall, where I attended schools from K-12. Both my mother and father come from large families, but had different opportunities. My father has only a high school diploma while my mother is a jack of many trades and degrees. When I was born, I only had less than 48 hours to live, as I was born very prematurely. I am very grateful to my doctors and nurses who saved my life, and would like to do the same for other families that were like mine in a situation where they do not know if their child is going to live or going to pass on. I chose this field at the age of 5, where it was the first seizure I actually remember happening and again, nurses and doctors saved my life. I chose Florida International, as I did apply to many of other schools in my state but I decided to stay close to home as I was not ready to explore outside the comfort of my family and close friends, but I am not committed to leave Miami, and continue my education at another In-State University.
