About

My name is Belinda Ayze. I'm a Navajo woman who is studying at Northern Arizona University. I am working to obtain my Bachelor of Science degree in May 2016. I'm currently involved in events with the local grassroots organizations by bringing awareness, and restoring the Navajo traditional cultural teachings. My studies in Applied Indigenous Studies has benefited me in raising awareness in my community. It's important for me to teach the youth about leadership, and taking the initiative to reclaim cultural identity. The education of the youth is important to me because I almost lost my own language through assimilation into the western teachings. It's important for all people to keep their languages, and culture, but the most important fact for me is the preservation of Native American heritage.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I intend to complete my Bachelors of Science degree in Applied Indigenous Studies at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. My career relates to Indigenous Peoples. Therefore, I would like to help the Navajo Nation in Tribal Environmental Management. My work is to find ways for the Navajo Community to restore cultural practices such as farming, ranching, and using sustainable energy. I would like to work in public administration.

Graduate school interests

I want to continue to obtain my masters degree in Public Administration at the University of New Mexico.

Outside the classroom

I'm an artist who enjoys creating Native American jewelry by creating one-of-a-kind sets for people of interests. My art work consists of acrylic painting, graphite and ink drawings, and graphic design.
