About

For the last four years, I've worked at Slacker's CDs & Games. I was their Lead Editor for all of their web content, such as reviews, previews and guides for their website. In June 2013 I was sent to cover the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, CA. There I had hands-on experience with interviewing leaders of the video game industry. I also had numerous hands-on previews with the leading technology that would be released in the coming years. While I was working as the Lead Editor at Slacker's, I was also an Editor for the student newspaper at Southwestern Illinois College for two semesters. I was tasked with interviewing students, faculty and staff along with community members for our stories that were printed in the weekly newspaper.

Currently, I'm a Senior at Southern Illinois University Carbondale's School of Journalism. I've accumulated a 3.7 GPA, since attending the school for the past two semesters. In the Spring of 2015, I was nominated and won the Harry W. and Helen M. Stonecipher Scholarship for Journalism Excellence in the spring semester. I was presented the scholarship during a private luncheon with David Axelrod. I also wrote a profile piece for a book focusing on achievements of alumni of Southern Illinois University. This piece concentrated on a former Campus Editor at the student newspaper in 1953 that combated racism in the school's athletic program. Along with this profile article, I led a team creating a documentary that detailed the accessibility challenges in the city of Carbondale but also on campus.

As I'm finishing up my degree, I'm also working full-time at a electronic entertainment website called Twinfinite. Here I'm a Lead Reporter that writes breaking news articles, reviews, previews along with guides and also handles social media for the website. From all of these experiences, I've gained numerous skills that will help me standout amongst my peers. I'm grateful for all of the experience I've gained and I look forward to acquiring new talents to help me progress forward.

Goals and interests

Career goal

At a young age, I determined the importance of the media. It was easy to see that their accurate reporting and newsgathering techniques impacted the daily lives of everyone experiencing it. There was a full spectrum of information these reporters were writing and providing for everyone reading print or watching the evening news. Growing up I admired these hard working individuals in the media industry, influencing me to pursue a career in journalism.

As I continued through school, I looked for opportunities to provide me valuable experience. With the help of my university, along with my work experience, I've gained a vast amount of knowledge to put towards my future career. After I graduate in the summer, I hope to work for a major media outlet and represent my school as a leader in the industry. I've reported on breaking-news before, and I crave to cover them again for a news outlet. With SIU's School of Journalism, I've learned the proper techniques on reporting both with the writing and editing side but also with the lesser known ethics portion of good reporting.

After I graduate, I would like to be sent into the field covering warzones and conflicts around the world. There are terrible situations that need to be reported on and I've been proven successful as an investigative journalist with my previous work. Having an outlet for everyday people around the world through honest and true reporting is incredibly important and I'd love nothing more than to provide that for them.

Outside the classroom

I'm an avid fan of tennis, enjoying the outdoors, building and fixing computers, watching documentaries, reading a plethora of different book genres, watching and playing hockey, being active at the gym, writing and editing is a passion of mine and it always keeps me on my toes.
