As a Counselor for the Rotary Youth Club- For the Mentally and Physically Disabled, I was responsible for assisting the campers with any needs (eating, walking, using the bathroom, dressing, etc.) while simultaneously conducting and participating in engaging, educational, and entertaining activities with the campers.
Given these campers have a wide range of disabilities, Counselors are required to be on duty 24/7 (throughout the entire two-week residential camp) in order to act quickly and respond appropriately to a multitude of situations, regardless of the particular scenario, time, or urgency.
This six-year opportunity was one of the most painstaking and laborious tasks I've ever endured, yet proved to be a very rewarding, fulfilling, and meaningful learning experience I will never forget.
