About
2.94 gpa and proud. If you heard about my college journey, you would understand why my gpa is that way. I come from the Mescalero Apache Reservation of Nuevo Mexico. I am Apache, Mexican, and Black. Shi ta (Father) David Vigil and Shi ma (Mother) Sharron Kane. I am currently enrolled in Fort Lewis College, going to school to get my bachelors in Environmental Studies and a minor in Studio Art. I grew up on the rez, for a community of around 5,000 people, I've lost around 50 people to gang violence, suicide, drugs, alcohol, diabetes, and cancer. The youth have the highest death rate. I come from poverty, low unemployment, and violence. My people are a strong people, I was raised by my elders to always carry respect for myself, the land, my culture, and others. I'm in LatinX, Black Student Union, Uprooted and Rising, Indigenous 20-Something Project, and the National Leadership of Society and Success. I'm a mentor for the Mescalero Boys and Girls Club and I participate in numerous ceremonies. I come from a hard working family, who taught me to not be afraid to stand up for what's right and to fight for what you want. I do the work that I do to provide a better future for the youth and my people. My three bloodlines carry intergenerational trauma from colonization, I work to heal my trauma to break cycles for future generations. I enjoy a variety of arts, nature, tea, working out, and living my life to the fullest. I choose to follow the footsteps of my ancestors and their teachings.

Honors and awards
-
National Leadership of Society and Success
Building leaders who build a better tomorow. I recieved this through Eastern New Mexico University Ruidoso while being an EcoServant.
-
Eagle Feather
I recieved an Eagle Feather for my education journey and leadership and that is the biggest honor/reward I will ever recieve in my life. One must show very strong warrior skills and wisdom in order to recieve one. They provide a special kind of protection
-
Traditional Necklace
I earned a handmade necklace from my elders for my leadership skills, generosity, and humblness. Few recieve it and it's a great honor to recieve one. It provides a special protection energy.
-
Traditional Necklace
I earned a traditional necklace from my grandpa that the old ones used to wear. He said it was for my maturity, leadership, learning the culture, and my education journey.
-
Eagle Feather
I showed maturity and a couregous spirit, so my elders gifted me with a feather as a way of saying I made it to the next journey. Many don't get this feather until their forties, I recieved it very early in my teen years.
-
Crystals
I earned a few crytals and these crystals show that one has worked hard, carries a strong warrior spirit, wisdom, high intelligence, and creativity. They provide protection and to know that I earned this protection is a great honor.
Goals and interests
- Career goal
Ever since I was a kid all I ever wanted was to give back to the people. I grew up in a rough environment and those traumatic experiences caused me to mature very early in life. I had the wisdom of a 40 year old at age ten. I've put in numerous hours towards community service and art. I'm already living out my dream and I'll keep doing what I'm doing and see where it takes me. I plan to start a youth center on the rez where kids can come in and do art, garden in our new community garden where we're growing our Indigenous plants, go to the job center, have mental health services that know how to assist trauma from colonization, a language program, traditional classes that teach the culture, a cooking class to teach healthy alternatives to recipes, and other programs where kids can come in and receive college credit. This building will have solar panels, recycling bins, murals, a compost area, a laundry mat, a free food pantry, and every day we're providing free meals.
- Graduate school interests
Thinking about going to the University of New Mexico to receive my Masters in business or art. I need business knowledge, so I can know how to handle the logistics of my dream.
- Outside the classroom
I enjoy painting with acrylics, drawing with sharpie, charocal, or pastels, dancing, wood work, metal work, video making, photography, decorating, music, anything that envolves creativity. I love spending time with my familia, shed hunting with my dad, going to ceremonies, going to any type of body of water, volunteering, and playing with dogs. I'm good at topography, I enjoy creating art for others.
