Resilience is what delivers me to be in the positions to be a part of this Honors Society. I woke up from a 4 1/2 month coma in February of 2020 and was told that I would need a kidney transplant. I was placed on a waiting list that was seven years long. While in my coma, I was told by my family that the doctors gave me a 98% chance of death and a 2% chance of waking up living out the remainder of my days in a nursing home with brain damage. I had to learn how to walk, talk, and live all over again at 34. I refused to feel sorry for myself, and I refused to allow anyone, doctors, friends, or even family tell me what I was and was not capable of. So, I enrolled at the University of Phoenix and started my educational journey. With what would be at least ten years before I could work again, I might as well use the time productively. Since then, I have accomplished more than I dreamed of doing. I transformed into a new person and astounded doctors with my body's ability to recover from renal kidney failure for over a year to stage 3b kidney disease. I have accumulated a 4.0GPA and have become closer with my daughter than I have ever been. I am proof that we are all capable of doing the impossible as long as you believe it is possible and never give up!
