About

I am a person who shoots for the moon because even if I fail, I am still among the stars.

As the former President of South Africa and philanthropist, Nelson Mandela, once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." This statement inspired me, at the age of 43, to go to college and pursue a higher education. Every day I am reminded of how important nursing, in any capacity, is to those who need help. Because of my passion for helping others, I believe that a better education combined with my training and life experience will help me achieve my ultimate dream of becoming a nurse.

Goals and interests

Career goal

As a grandmother, going to college for the first time was a scary proposition and was not easy. I decided to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Upon graduation, it is my goal to become a Public Health nurse, assisting in areas such as addiction, domestic violence, veteran assistance, mental health, and more. After personally overcoming addiction and homelessness, I was inspired by the words of President John Quincy Adams, who said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.”

Graduate school interests

I graduated from Glendale Community College in May of 2020 with an Associate of Art degree and an Associate's degree in Nursing. In December of 2020, I graduated Northern Arizona University with my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. I lost my husband of 34 yrs in December of 2021. Since 2020 started the pandemic, he was unable to see me walk across the stage to commemorate the end of this leg.of my journey. NAU held a special graduation ceremony for 2020 graduates on May 14, 2022. It was bitter sweet. I've decided to take a break from school but still plan to pursue Nurse Practitioner. We'll see what God has in store.

Outside the classroom

I love to entertain myself by engaging in outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, and road trips, but most of all, I love spending time with my grand-kids. I also love writing and reading poetry.
