About
My name is Elise Vass and I am 32 with an amazing family. We have 5 beautiful children that absolutely love school and extracurricular activities. I have a Bachelors in Psychology, Elementary Education K-9 certification with a Middle School Endorsement, and an LBS1 from the University of Illinois at Springfield. I am a Special Education Teacher at Hope Learning Academy in Springfield, Illinois. I currently have Middle School to High School aged students whom are non-verbal and have severe disabilities and cognitive impairments. My favorite part of my job is to find a way to communicate with my students, explore how they learn as an individual, find goals that meet their needs and abilities, and watch them progress. Every step forward is a success to celebrate!

Goals and interests
- Career goal
My intended Job Path will not change with my Masters. I am wanting to explore everything to do with Special Education. I want to build my knowledge more on ABA services, Special Education Laws, IEP laws, and explore new innovative ways to help my students succeed to the best of their abilities.
- Graduate school interests
My interest in Grad school is to gain knowledge of all aspects of Special Education. My particular Master's Program at Purdue is for gaining knowledge on individuals with Severe disabilities and Cognitive Impairments. Most degrees in this area are for kiddos you would meet in a public school setting. My specific type of kiddos I teach need more intense therapy that they receive in our school, they have a team to help diffuse behaviors, 24/7 residential care, and 1:1 aids for all of their needs.
- Outside the classroom
II have several hobbies that I enjoy to do. During Covid, I started a small business of making t-shirts to teach my children the foundation of work ethic and accountability. Although they are 10 and under they were able to help separate t-shirts by color and sizes, help identify when we needed to order sizes/colors we needed for orders, and they were able to help get the designs ready to iron. This has been a fun and successful learning opportunity as well as bonding. I also have recently learned how to crochet. I have not succeeded in more than learning 2-3 stiches- however, I have thoroughly enjoyed finding a calm hobby to partake in.
