Emily Mendoza

I graduated high school in the class of 2020 and I am proud to be part of this organization, truth is I received the invitation back in my senior year but the thing is during Covid-19, my life took an unexpected turn. I know that is not an excuse after not being able to apply for so long but that is my explanation especially from that time from August 2020 to June 2021 I suffered from anxiety and depression and I had to put my health first before my education. But after 10 months of meditation, yoga, and therapy I had my mental health back and felt that I could finally stand from being knocked down. I am currently in Yakima Valley College where I started my first quarter on spring 2022. I wanted to apply for fall quarter 2021 but I missed deadline sometime after June 2021. While my parents wanted me to wait to start till fall quarter of 2022 I wanted to get back on track and I knew I was ready so I started a quarter early. Fall 2023 will be my fifth quarter out of the six and I currently have a 3.79 gpa. I know being in a “community college” doesn’t seem pleasing for many but I don’t care as I am proud to get any form of higher education without facing a student debt. I am thankful for still being alive and well, I am thankful to at least have an anxiety and depression where I wasn’t in anyway suicidal like I heard others were, I am thankful to continue my education and I am thankful for this honor society letting me be a member.
