About
My name is Ini-Abasi Asanga, and I am currently taking Nursing pre-requisites classes at Wayne County Community College. I am an active member of the Honors Society. I was born in Nigeria, and I came to the United States at the age of 25 to seek academic growth and progress. At first, I experienced different culture shocks in America. This experience motivated me to volunteer as a speaker at the 2015 student success conference during my first year in school. I spoke about the topic “From a foreign student to a global citizen”. I shared my experience with students and professors and introduced how a foreign student can embrace the American culture by thinking out of the box, joining clubs on campus, and getting to know the native students. I was not going to let the differences in American culture and language limit me from achieving the goals that brought me here in the first place. I took credit classes in American culture and language to learn more about American history and culture, and I joined the business club and Esperafrica foundation as a founding member and public relations assistant. These exposures and experiences helped me to excel in my academics and career. Now, I can say that hard work is the most important key to success.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
I am currently studying to be a registered nurse. My career goal is to become a competent nurse practitioner. I intend starting my Bachelor's degree in Nursing in the 2021 School year after completing my prerequisites classes for nursing in the 2020 Fall semester.
- Graduate school interests
After I complete my bachelors degree in Nursing, I plan to apply for a Master degree in Nursing to be a nurse practitioner. I believe that with hard work and passion, I will be able to achieve my career goals.
- Outside the classroom
My interest includes writing, reading, drawing, cooking, sewing, and listening to music. I also love learning how to speak different languages. I learned how to speak the Korean language from my friends at school, and they were happy about my enthusiasm to learn their language. I am currently learning the German language using Duolingo and how to write in the German alphabet. I like to embrace knowledge and empower myself by learning new things when the opportunity arises.
