Jessica McKerns

hourly manager at Capital Ale House While working at Capital Ale House I had the pleasure of being promoted to the position of Hourly Manager in November 2017. As an hourly manager I was given the responsibility to open and close the restaurant as well as handle deposits and write checks, create floor plans, and file and/or document paperwork. Also while working as a manager at Capital Ale House I gained experience as a Hospitality Coordinator. While participating in this role as coordinator I went over contracts with guests and put together private events; sports buffets, weddings rehearsals, business meetings, etc. This experience also helped gain knowledge when it comes to being a leader and having an entire staff depend on you.

Goals and interests

Graduate school interests

Currently, my top grad school interests are James Madison University and George Mason University. The reason being is because one, both schools are high rated and positive reviewed program for which I wish to study and two, because they located in Virginia. For a graduate program to be located in Virginia is particularly important for me because an out-of-state university is unfortunately out of my price range at the moment. So if I must stay I shall learn with some of the best, non-private, programs that are available.

Volunteering

  • Athletic Trainer Assistant During my Junior year in high-school I attended a technical class called Sports Medicine. It was during my attendance in this class I gained basic knowledge of tapping/wrapping, usage of ice or heat therapy, treatment of cuts, wounds, or burns, different fractures of bones and how to splint a ligament, execute concussion tests, as well as rehabilitation techniques for various breaks, strains, and sprains and much more. I was given the opportunity to work with one of the high-school sports teams and chose Lacrosse. During my time volunteering with the Lacrosse team I was able to help aid an athlete who had torn is ACL and MCL, I gave another athlete a concussion test before he could be approved to return to play after injury, and helped keep the team hydrated.
