About

My career goal is to receive a bachelor’s degree of science in chemistry at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and continue doing research in protein folding studies. After my graduation from UTEP, I plan to apply for graduate school and continue pursuing a master’s of science degree in chemistry. If everything goes well, I will then pursue a doctorate’s degree in chemistry and become a chemist to continue doing research.

Goals and interests

Career goal

Research fits into my future intended job path because it is what I plan to do after I graduate from the university. In addition to improving my academic skills, research will also enhance my experience in a hands-on laboratory setting and enrich my exploration into a scientifically new discovery.

Graduate school interests

I have an interest in biomedical research in graduate school because of the many areas in science it involves. Surprisingly, the fields included are: biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and psychology. These areas of science are fascinating because they deal with every aspect of the human body. As time goes on, organisms tend to change and new scientific developments are needed to keep up with the change. These changes can include: new blood borne pathogens, untraceable viruses, carcinogenic cell development, and among other deadly diseases that harm our society. That is where biomedical research comes into play, to form new methods of dealing with these diseases and find a solution to an extensive problem. Bio-medicine uses the magnificent field of biology, where one can trace the origin of a cell and how it mutates at a certain extent and possibly find a way to stop the mutagen cell from spreading. It also uses the tediousness of chemistry to calculate the microscopic rates at which these cells develop and discovers the essence of their formation by looking at them at a molecular level. These are some of the marvelous scientific fields of study that are used in biomedical research and it will be a fascinating interest during my time in graduate school.

Outside the classroom

Every day I go to school to enhance my learning and research skills. I have also met many individuals that are eager to assist me. These people range from students, instructors, mentors, and even those who simply come to visit campus to acknowledge its environment. I came across a revelation when I first enrolled into college: I admired how much help I can receive to advance my education. When I was introduced to the college campus by faculty members and guidance counselors, I was quite nervous of the environment around me. I thought to myself that I wasn’t prepared to be in college and was probably unable to meet the requirements needed to graduate. But once I met my teachers, counselors, and fellow classmates, I felt as though I was part of a team, a community, or a family. I have gained confidence in myself to believe that I can succeed.
