Second-year Honors student intern at Community Access Partners of San Buenaventura (CAPS) is a media center that manages public, educational, and government access television channels. They provide equipment, studio and editing facilities as well as training classes in media. My participation as a second-year honors student intern at CAPS Media has given me several responsibilities I absolutely love. I've been Director, Producer, Editor, Cinematographer, Podcaster, Interviewer, Teleprompter, Audio Technician, as well as helped with studio setup. Of the many roles I've filled, collaboration with my mentor and peers has been one of my favorite aspects in bringing topics to life. In addition, I've had the opportunity to meet several interesting people from my community and be inspired by their stories. It is incredibly rewarding to be able to share their stories through CAPS Media with the public and have such a meaningful role in my community. I thoroughly enjoy the responsibilities and position of leadership through this program too. An interview that I conducted last school year, “Art About Agriculture” with John Nichols, recently won a Western Access Video Excellence (WAVE) award in the Arts category. I also participated in another show called “Why Poetry” that won the Educational Access award. Recently, I volunteered outside of normal class time to help out with the CAPS Media coverage of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. I helped with setup and cleanup, and I had the opportunity to briefly interview Assemblymember Steve Bennett on the importance of the parade to the community. In my junior year, there was also a screenwriting class held at CAPS Media that was run by a previous student of CAPS who currently works in film and screenwriting as a career. I was taught the basics of screenwriting, which included how to write a script, how to format, and how to break a storyline into three acts. Every other week, students would bring their scripts to class for input as well as discussing ideas. I completed my screenplay and began working on another script project before the class ended.

About

Humbly speaking, I am not your average student. At an early age, I aspired to be a spelling bee champion. By the time I reached 8th grade, I not only won my school spelling bee, but I won Ventura County as well. I advanced to the Scripps National Spelling Bee and finished as a finalist.
These past four years have been the toughest in all my life thus far. Since my freshman year, I have managed a rigorous schedule of full-time high school and nearly full-time college at the same time through my high school's dual enrollment program. El Camino High School is an independent studies school that requires students to take at least one college class per semester. I graduated from Ventura College on May 19, 2023, earning four Associate of Art degrees. I acquired an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Studies, Associate of Arts degree in Arts and Humanities, Associate of Arts degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences, and an Associate of Arts degree in Natural Sciences and Mathematics as well as an Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) Certification. I attained Highest Honors with a 4.0 GPA after completing 76 college credits as a part-time college student over the last four years while attending high school full-time. On June 16, 2023, I completed my studies at El Camino High School with a 4.4 GPA. This makes me feel incredibly blessed and proud that I have had the ability and opportunity to graduate from a community college before graduating from high school at the age of 17. This reflects that I am no stranger to perseverance and dedication in my studies. I will be attending Pepperdine University this fall and plan to double major in International Studies and Communications. I was also accepted into Pepperdine's selective Regents Scholars Program.

    Oct 2021 – Jun 2023

  • Due to COVID-19, I haven't been able to do as much community service as I wanted to throughout my high school years. Though I have been limited from the pandemic, making a positive impact on the environment and community is something that I want to always continue doing. I have been picking up litter at beaches and campgrounds with my family since before starting high school in an effort to help clean up our environment.
