About

Hi y'all! My name is Katelyn Ables, but I prefer to go by "Katie". I am the oldest of eight kiddos and grew up in the Texas Hill Country, where we were literally 45 minutes away from the nearest anything! I am enrolled at Texas State Technical College in Waco, Texas, where I will be attending in Fall 2017. I wish to pursue Avionics Technology, which I am very excited about! My great-grandfather is former Air Force, my grandfather loves all things aviation, and my dad held a private pilot's license when he was in college. You might say that aviation runs in the family! From the time I was little, my dad and grandfather made sure I knew as much as I possibly could about airplanes. It was not uncommon for us to go to the airport and just watch planes take off and land, in fact, I remember standing behind the fence and trying to race the airplanes as they landed! My parents instilled in me the importance of hard work and responsibility. It was extremely important to them that each of their children become well-known, and hopefully well-liked, for their drive as well as their respect for others. I am so excited to be starting a new chapter in my life! Avionics is something I have never done, and to be honest I'm a little nervous about doing. Above all, though, I am eager to try something new because I love to work with my hands, I love to learn new things, and I love airplanes, so what could be a better combination?

Goals and interests

Career goal

After I finish at TSTC, my hope is to get a job at a regional airport to start off with. As I get more experience, I want to work my way up to working on bigger airplanes and being part of a larger crew.

Outside the classroom

I do a little bit of everything. I love baseball, softball, football, and pretty much anything else that ends with "ball"! I play rhythm guitar and have led worship for the past three years. I am learning to play mandolin and cajon, as well as Bluegrass style guitar and Celtic guitar. I have a Border Collie who I just love to train, and when I'm not trying to fix something with superglue, I am writing songs, hanging out with my family, asking way too many questions about a given topic, or driving my best friend crazy with all my ideas! I also like playing around with different IQ and personality quizzes to see if I can outsmart them!
