Kelsey Akarue

I chose to major in pharmacy because I desire to make an impact in the health care system. Our health care system is a vital part to the community and I want to help it flourish in a more positive light. Pharmacy allows me to increase my community's knowledge on proper medication and health management. I feel that pharmacists are an essential to the health care system and I admire the work they do daily for our communities. Becoming a pharmacist will allow me to communicate proper medication management to citizens and improve the health of my community.

Though I am currently taking pre-pharmacy courses, I will be applying to pharmacy school my junior year of college. After getting into pharmacy school, I plan to do hospital residences. These residencies will provide me with the opportunity to find out if I am better suited as a hospital pharmacist or a retail pharmacist.

I enjoy reading novels, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. I especially enjoy spending any time I have volunteering local health events. Being apart of Texas Southern University's Pre Health Professions Club allows for me to participate in theses health events and learn more about how I can make a difference in each cause.
