About

My name is Landry Maragos and I am a senior at Minot High School in Minot, North Dakota. Upon graduation in May 2020, I will be continuing my education at Concordia College, a private liberal arts school, as a pre-med student where I plan to obtain a bachelor’s degree in biology. My high school career has been marked by graduating in the top of my class, starting in two varsity sports, playing cello four years, volunteering in community service organizations, participating in school government, involvement in school organizations and employment as a lifeguard. However, the achievement I am most proud of is founding Athletes Inspiring Action (AIX). AIX is a group of athletes from schools in my community who have put aside school rivalries to come together and serve the community. We have a total of 123 athletes, representing 10 schools, who dedicate their time to do community service. Projects include writing letters to troops who are deployed, bell ringing for the Salvation Army, a buddy system with special needs athletes and delivering valentines to nursing homes. AIX has intentionally been designed to be easily duplicated and continue to spread as a platform for athletes to serve communities. To insure the preservation of AIX, officers and a transition protocol have been established and I will act as an adviser and point of contact for years to come.
My goals are big for my first year of college. Along with my education, I am furthering my softball career as a Concordia Cobber. I was offered many softball scholarship opportunities but ultimately chose to play for a school that does not offer sports scholarships due to their academic excellence. In addition to playing softball, I plan to implement a new chapter of Athletes Inspiring Action (AIX). My goal is to use my platform as a student athlete to establish AIX at the collegiate level. Although I do not plan to major in music, I’ll be pursuing my passion of playing the cello by participating in the annual Christmas and spring concerts. My goal is to graduate at the top of my class and gain entrance immediately into the Johns Hopkins Medical School where I plan to finally reach my lifelong dream of getting into the surgical room as a pediatric surgeon.
