About
My intended major is drama. In other words, I want to become an actor. I was always interested and curious regarding the world of an actor whether that individual performed on a stage, in front of a camera, or inside a sound room where one would be well known by their voice and not their face. The world of an actor was always interesting to me because that actor may have to utilize all emotions and perform multiple personalities. There’s a vast world of acting one could get into, study, and learn, such as theatre, opera, musicals, and film. I fully understand that this isn’t an easy career, and have I brainstormed if there are any other careers I may have a passion for, and up to this point, acting appears to be my one and only passion. After listening to some of my teachers’ and peers’ advice, I began to gain more of my own confidence in pursuing this career by continuing to take more classes and to study in any other jobs that relate to the world of theatre. This major has been my interest since my elementary years at school, and since then, I have either viewed plays, concerts, recitals, or I have participated in them. Beginning of first grade to the end of my elementary school life, our school had a program which involved all of the students in the entire school to perform dance feats. It was there where I learned how to dance not only for our families but for other nearby elementary schools all thanks to our professional dance instructor Mr. Crane. The first play I participated in middle school was called “Macbeth,” and despite playing a minimum to moderate roll, I learned much of the intricacies of theatre from that play from rehearsing to costumes/props. Right to high school, taking theatre classes was to be my highest priority while maintaining the required courses throughout my high school years. My experiences regarding my major have usually consisted of my courses and analyzing/observing plays as well as participating in one. At times I would attend the drama club and learn acting from my peers and at the same time, play acting related games. Another play I volunteered for was a familiar Shakespeare play called, “A Midsummer Nights Dream.” I played a moderate character; however, my character was vital at the beginning and near the end of the play. These experiences have all been very enjoyable and memorable to me. I can safely say that the majority of actors from elementary to college have all had a fantastic time performing and working together as a team. At my community college, I’ve talked to the actors who have performed plays for the school, and they’ve all enjoyed their time working side by side with their fellow actors and staff members. I’m confident that I can excel greatly at my major when I have parents, peers, and of course, well experienced educators who help teach everything I need to know about the life of an actor.
