About
I, Malory Rose, am completing my freshman year at University of Washington. I was a student athlete competing on the NCAA division 1 gymnastics team. I received the Most Outstanding Newcomer Award due to my participation in every meet competing on beam winning top three titles in three meets. As a student athlete, I am up training by 7:30 every morning and train 20 hours per week. My sport provides discipline and dedication that will take me through my future career. University of Washington uses an extremely competitive grading scale with most classes using 98-100% as a 4.0. My major interest of study includes a new degree called Informatics and American Sign Language. My interest in technology and how it has assisted me in my education due to my visual and learning disabilities prompted me to want to help others through technology. I have a condition called exophoria which makes reading exceptionally challenging. Letters jump all over the page because my eyes do not diverge appropriately. This produces dyslexia and an inability to read and phonetically sound out new words. I have utilized a smart pen to assist me in note taking and reading for college. I have had to develop alternative techniques to be able to succeed at a college level. My disabilities cause me to have to take two to three times longer to read required material. I have overcome my disabilities and hope to help others achieve success despite their own disabilities.
