About
My name is Mariah Allen and I am from San Antonio, Texas. I am currently studying Communication at UTSA, no concentration. I have received my associates from San Antonio College. I was born deaf, I have a profound hearing loss, considered hard of hearing. I was involved in the San Antonio Deaf Dance Company, in which we performed every summer. I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2008, I made a decision then that I wanted to help others in that position. I have an interest in research and writing. Writing essays and gathering information for a project has always been my skill. I also want to counsel teenagers and young adults who are living with an illness. I am taking interest in public health and new research on fitness and health. I am a leader for a nonprofit Organization, "Together United." The mission is to help the community with economic, health and physical challenges.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
I am interested in taking the position in a Healthcare Counselor and Research Analyst. While working with the Nonprofit Organization, I am hoping to take part in Grant Writing as well.
- Graduate school interests
I have plans after graduating to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio, for my Masters in Social Work. Completing my Master's degree, I will be able to start my social work counseling. Hoping to take a position at a Veteran Hospital or such that will allow me to use my Communication degree as well as research.
- Outside the classroom
I have a high interest in Art and track. I enjoy going to the museum and taking art classes. I also enjoy fitness and helping other's with a fitness plan. I ran track up to my Junior year of High School. In my free time, I am looking new up new health and fitness information as well as new food recipes. I enjoy cooking and love going out and trying new restaurants. I enjoy the outdoor going fishing and kayaking.
