About

Hi, I'm Midlyne Vallon, a 43-year-old mother of three, wife, and proud dog mom. My journey has been rooted in service and growth. I spent 17 years as a social worker, drawing on my academic background in social work, sociology, and anthropology to support individuals and families through life’s challenges. Driven by a desire to expand my impact, I earned my MBA and later returned to school to pursue a bachelor's degree in nursing. Today, I'm continuing that path as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, blending my deep understanding of social systems with clinical expertise to provide compassionate, holistic mental health care.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My intended career path is to become a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care to individuals across the lifespan. With a foundation in social work and nearly two decades of experience supporting vulnerable populations, I’m passionate about integrating my clinical nursing skills with a deep understanding of social systems, trauma, and behavioral health. My goal is to work in community mental health, outpatient psychiatry, or integrated care settings—where I can advocate for holistic, culturally competent treatment and help bridge the gap between mental health and primary care.

Graduate school interests

As a graduate student in the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program, my academic interests lie at the intersection of mental health, trauma-informed care, and culturally competent practice. I’m deeply committed to understanding how social determinants, systemic inequities, and lived experiences shape mental health outcomes—particularly in underserved communities. My goal is to develop advanced clinical skills while also exploring integrative approaches to care that blend evidence-based medicine with empathy, advocacy, and holistic support. I’m especially interested in working with populations affected by chronic stress, intergenerational trauma, and co occurring disorders, and I hope to contribute to research and practice that expands access to compassionate, community-based mental health services.

Outside the classroom

In my free time, I love staying active and creative. I enjoy walking my dog it’s my favorite way to unwind and connect with nature. I also love reading, especially books on psychology, personal growth, and cultural history. Cooking is another passion of mine; I find joy in experimenting with new recipes and sharing meals with my family. When I need a mental reset, I turn to journaling or listening to music. These hobbies help me stay grounded, inspired, and balanced as I navigate both family life and my professional journey.

Volunteering

  • Volunteering has always been a meaningful part of my journey. Whether through community outreach, mentoring, or supporting mental health initiatives, I’ve consistently sought ways to give back. During my years as a social worker, I often volunteered beyond my formal role helping organize local resource fairs, supporting families in crisis, and mentoring young professionals entering the field. Now, as I transition into psychiatric nursing, I’m especially drawn to volunteer opportunities that promote mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and provide support to underserved populations. I believe that healing happens not just in clinics, but in communities and I’m committed to being part of that change.
