About

I think I would make a great candidate for this scholarship because I have shown my ability to make my goals realities. I first sought to acheave the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, when I was 13 years old. The program is meant to be started at age 11. I not only ranked Eagle prior to the cut off time, 18 years old, I had to transfer troops my senior year because my first troop decided to shut its doors. I joined another troop and after being there for only two months they elected me Senior Patrol Leader and I led the to win "Best Overall Troop" award at Camp Strake 2014. After high school graduation I set my eyes on another goal. I wanted to audition for a local professional dance company. Starting in April 2016 I applied my knowledge of body and weight training to reach my goal body weight of 160 pounds. The reason for setting this goal was to ensure I would be strong enough to be able to "lift" my dance partners with ease. I worked out at the gym two hours five days a week from April to July that summer. I auditioned for the dance company and was recruited to be their lead male dancer and lifter. I am also the youngest male dance in the dance group at just 18 years old. I eventually surpassed may goal weight. Currently, I am 170 pounds at 11% body fat. I performed in 7 concerts, in front of 25,000 people for the Christmas holiday concert at Champion Forest Baptist Church 2016. On top of ending 2016 with such accomplishment of Eagle Rank, high school graduation, dance goal, personal weight/body building goals I also have accomplished straight A's. These accomplishments are not to be looked over with a glance because I accomplished those things despite having a learning disability. I am dyslexic. I have accommodations with my school work but these accommodations did not help me ace the "A". I spent countless hours reading and re-reading assignments, organizing my calendar to fit studying, 8 hours of dance rehearsals a week and 10 hours a week at the gym. I did not miss any class or any rehearsals. I also took advantage of the math labs and the writing center at every spare moment, averaging 25 hours a week. Needless to say my bank account suffered. I simply did not have time to work. This money, if I receive it will be an investment in a high achieving young adult. The money will be returned 100 fold in my accomplishment of my goals for my community.
