Goals and interests

Career goal

My ultimate goal is to end up flying helicopters for the US Coast Guard, whose flight school I plan on attending after graduating from the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. I plan on reinforcing my application to the Academy by attending a semester at a community college. It is my family history that has spurred me on to want a career in the military. Even before my family immigrated to the United States, some of them through Ellis Island, there are records of my ancestors serving in their nation's military in times of great adversity. I have had relatives and ancestors proudly wear the uniform of the United States in all of the branches of the military (with the exception of the Space Force), and in the Merchant Marines. My grandfather in particular has given me a high bar to meet, having proudly served in the police forces of several states after fighting in Vietnam. He even went on several UN peacekeeping missions in Bosnia, Kosovo, and East Timor. Needless to say, I have a high standard to meet, and I fully intend to do so.

Graduate school interests

I plan to major in Electrical Engineering, and receive a Bachelors of Science degree, after which I intend to pursue a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering while at the Coast Guard Academy, after graduating from which I will receive a commission as an officer in the Coast Guard should I be admitted.

Outside the classroom

My hobbies include primarily flying gliders whenever I can get the chance. In my spare time I construct model airplanes, research linguistics, and read ancient epic poetry.
