About

Hi, my name is Patrick Bevins. I am currently a senior in high school. Having been homeschooled my entire life, I have benefitted from the ability to choose the pace of my learning, how I learn, and what I wish to learn. This freedom has allowed me to score high marks on three AP tests, the SAT, the ACT, and to take college classes. I also plan on taking three more AP tests this May. Homeschooling has inspired in me a love of science and the intricacies of the physical makeup of reality. Based on this love, I plan on pursuing a career in Physical Therapy.

Currently, when I'm not studying, my time is spent writing scholarships for college, training at my local martial arts dojo, or training my body in swimming and weight-lifting to prepare for lifeguard classes, as I plan to be a lifeguard as soon as I am able. As a devoted Christian, I also love to attend our local church, am an active member of their Youth Group, and volunteer at the Union Gospel Mission every month. One of my favorite things to do is debate and seek out understanding of the world, both in the physical and spiritual sense.

I am the second son of four children and hold my family to be the most loving and supportive people on the planet. My mother is an immigrant from Croatia, and her stories of life under a communist regime, combined with my fascination with American history and politics, ingrain in me a deep love for my country. But beneath that love of God, family, and country is the passion I hold for my community. Attending the District Attorney Youth Academy of Sacramento and volunteering at my local Neighborhood Watch Association has strengthened that passion. I often spend my free time perusing small shops, playing in the local parks, and exploring the hidden nuances of our neighborhood. Lastly, if there was one word I would use to describe myself it would be "blessed," as I have been truly blessed by God in every regard.

Honors and awards

  • AP Scholar Award

An award given to students who score 3 or more on at least three AP exams.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I plan on pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a health-related field, such as pre-medicine, biology, or exercise science. After that, I hope to get into a graduate school for Physical Therapy. Next will be a one-year residency with a specialty in Sports and rehabilitation. Following certification, my ideal career path will be working as a physical therapist for a sports team, rehabilitating and training athletes.

Graduate school interests

Johns Hopkins Medical School holds much of my interest. Their Sports Physical Therapy Residency, in particular, seems to fit me best. The colleges that I am applying to have connections with Johns Hopkins as well. However, if that doesn't work out, The University of Southern California's Sports Fellowship in Division I Athletics residency is very appealing, as it focuses specifically on athletes and athletic training.

Outside the classroom

For my hobbies, reading the Bible ranks first, followed by spending time with family and then spending time with friends. However, on my own, I love to explore my neighborhood and discover the wildlife living by my local river. Though I'm not very good at it, fishing is enjoyable, too. Training at my martial arts dojo strengthens my physical and mental capabilities. For the physical aspect, nothing is more exhilarating than weight-lifting and swimming. Throwing the frisbee around is also fun, and the more people involved, the better. Cards and board games are an innocent and pleasant pastime to spend with friends and family, and it allows me to awaken my competitive spirit. Lastly, reading is its own reward; it is intellectually stimulating and perfect for a quiet evening after a busy day.
