About

As a student, I enjoy learning about the social sciences, strengths-based perspective theories, and social work, and applying what I learn to my work as a Veteran's Representative Work Study assisting veterans with significant barriers to employment (e.g., homeless, recently incarcerated, unemployed, low to no income, physically or mentally disabled, etc.) to become financially and emotionally stable. This includes using empathy, patience, commitment, genuineness, and maturity to triage veterans coming in for assistance and finding solutions to the current issues they face as well as how to overcome others with time. From transition of learned knowledge to experience, I have become apt at finding social services/resources/programs within my county that could assist my clients in overcoming their life challenges.

Goals and interests

Career goal

After finishing school, I intend to work as a case manager or in coordinated care for veterans and their families, such as for Veteran Treatment Courts or Department of Veterans Affairs. I also intend to be able to work in social services related to children and families, such as for the Department of Children, Youth, and Families or Department of Social Health and Services.

Graduate school interests

When pursuing further education in a Masters of Social Work program at University of Washington Tacoma campus, I expect to focus on child and family services with a preferred emphasis on veterans and their families.

Outside the classroom

I enjoy reading historical, fantasy, or science fiction, taking walks with my dog, volunteering at my church nursery, and volunteering for Toys for Tots.
