About

I am currently an international student from Newcastle, England. I come from a low income family and was given this opportunity of a lifetime to better my circumstances. I am motivated and determined to not only succeed, but to excel at this chance of a lifetime. I am positive that my efforts and determination will move me forward in life to my dream of being able to teach young children and to inspire them to achieve their dreams in life. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have this opportunity.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I intend to earn a career in being able to teach and inspire young children. I have always loved helping young children; When I was in high school I was a volunteer in helping the younger students enhance their reading ability, alongside volunteering in middle school to work with students who were moving into high school. I find that in doing these things, it is extremely rewarding and worthwhile. Being able to help young children for the rest of my life would be amazing.

Graduate school interests

My first choice of Grad school would the University of Texas in Austin. As I have researched and explored my options, I keep coming back to UT as I feel that this is the option for me. They have so many great opportunities for their students, such as on campus health care facilities and performing arts among many others. Austin is also a very welcoming city, filled with beautiful nature and people. These factors, amongst others, make UT the perfect grad school for me to achieve my dreams.

Outside the classroom

I have many different hobbies. I have found that hobbies have helped to widen my knoweldege and to achieve greater fullfillment in life. My hobbies include; playing guitar and piano, drawing and painting, hiking, reading fiction and non fiction, yoga, Krav Maga, gardening and many others.

Being able to play intruments was very frustrating for me, as my parents could never afford to buy me classes, but I really wanted to learn to play something. My uncle gave me a small electronic keyboard and an acoustic guitar for my Christmas present when I was 10 years old. From then, I was so determined to learn how to play them, I searched on Youtube for tutorials. After about half a year, I was playing and singing along to my favourite songs on both instruments. Through my own determination, I turned out I didn't need classes.

I love the outdoors. Being from England, you have to travel around 30 minuets before you reached anywhere even remotley able to hike. I love Austin, as there is so much nature and wilderness to explore, and its all so beautiful. I have conquered Enchanted Rock twice, alongside many other popular hiking trails around Austin. Nature is so peacful and beautiful that it has always been a passion of mine

Yoga and Krav Maga have been a hobbie of mine for around 2 years. 2 years ago, I found myself struggling with anxiety and depression. Through discovering these activities, my mental health and physical health have both improved and I have never felt healthier. Krav Maga has given me the confidence to know that I can defend myself and protect others if the situation occured, which is a very comforting thought to me.
