About

My name is Samuel Umholtz. I just completed my freshman year as an Anthropology Major at the University of Nevada, Reno. I have a background as an artist, and before college the majority of my work consisted of scenic work. Because of my dedication to art, the concept of Human creation and ingenuity fascinates me, thus the choice to study Anthropology. I am very passionate about my current field, however I intend to go to Law School after graduation to study copyright law and intellectual property, a subject that has always fascinated me, and one that I feel is entering a new frontier.

To support myself through college, I apply for scholarships such as the ones on this w, and work as much as possible. I have been lucky enough to work a wide variety of jobs. This past school year I worked as an Office Assistant at an incubator for start up businesses, this summer I will be working as a Counselor for the Davidson Academy’s summer program for gifted youth. The following school year I am an alternate for RA (Resident Advisor), and am in the midst of applying for a number of paid internships working for Archaeology and Cultural Resource Management firms. The summer of 2025 I have already been offered a job doing Archaeological Survey work as a Field Technician, and I intend to pursue Cultural Resource Management work and Field Survey over the next several years.

My goal is to put together enough money and scholarships to pay for my Undergrad and to cover my living expenses, thus allowing myself the time to participate in academic research and nonprofit volunteer work before the end of my Undergrad.

I strive to be very ambitious, and to create as many opportunities for myself as possible. As an Eagle Scout, a factor in my mentality are the obligations I hold myself to. The obligation to give all of my endeavors my all, the obligation to learn as much as possible, and to operate both morally, and to always give back to my community and surroundings.

Goals and interests

Career goal

After the completion of my undergrad in Anthropology, I intend to pursue Law School, with a focus in copyright law and intellectual property. New advancements in creative methods, AI technology, and disputes regarding the collective ownership of media and the creative rights of the individuals are issues that fascinate me, as well as being highly relevant.

Graduate school interests

I am highly passionate and motivated in my current field of Cultural Anthropology. While my intentions are to attend law school after completion of my undergrad, it is not unlikely that I will instead choose to pursue a Masters or Doctorate in the field of Anthropology or more specifically Archaeology.

Outside the classroom

Leatherworking, writing, drawing, painting, scale modeling, numismatics, reading, carpentry.
