About
Hi. My name is Santiago Guerrero. I am currently studying at the Florida International University (FIU). At first, I was following only one major, International Relations. Still, I decided to give a direction to a more economic sphere, so I complemented my professional path with a second major, Economics BS. Throughout these two years, I've challenged myself to be an excellent and committed student in all courses. To pay attention in class, participate in any conversation, research the topics in discussion, and back up my arguments and my ideals with reliable sources, data, and with extended analysis. All these efforts not only can be represented in a simple quantitative number, but also in the person that my professors, my family, and my friends have built up. Besides, I have satisfied diverse international certifications at High School, such as International Baccalaureate (IB), IGCSE, and IELTS, which gave me different intellectual skills at the moment of facing new and stronger obstacles and challenges. Moreover, these certifications opened my mind to a new reality that overcomes my comfort zone; to be involved in the struggles that afflict a huge percentage of the population: poverty, malnutrition, food insecurity, instability, inequality, and weak states. I realize that for contributing to society, we don't need to be rich or to have leverage, we need to be endowed with determination, love, and the conviction that this action will change the life of the person. That's why in 2019 I completed a whole year of social service in a public school, helping 9 years old kids for reinforcing their English level, with the aim of being competitive in the labor market in the future stage. Finally, due to my high GPA, the J. Green School of International and Public Affairs granted me the privilege of being part of the Dean's List honors for students who have gotten remarkable results within the semester.

Why shall I continue with these majors? how I will associate these courses in the future? It's easy I want to work in the IMF or International Monetary Fund. This international organization gives monetary and advisory support to poor or developing countries, with the purpose of reinforcing diverse sectors of society, such as health, educational level, food supply, and well-based democratic institutions. Indeed, I was born in a developing country that needs to face huge mountains in terms of corruption, lack of public investment, and a "middle" class that instead of having a social mobilization to an upper level, they have been stagnated with low income, miserable wages and with the burden of optimizing their resources due to elevated inflation, nearly 12 percent. What kind of opportunities emergent undergrad students can acquire after school? Well, this is a hard question, depending on which environment you look at. If you study in privileged universities, you can get easier access to recognize companies, but if you graduate from a public university, the options are reduced exponentially, and you are subjected to low wages and bad working conditions. This is not a problem that can be solved by imposing socialist ideas, anti-businesses, or anti-liberalist visions. I believe in the free development of INDIVIDUALS, and the power of healthy competition to drive an economy, but obviously with the intervention of the state to regulate and impose barriers to protect something that is called in the economy "infant industries" or entrepreneurship. Our factor of productivity that will lead to growth is called "education"; if our leaders don't bet on an admirable and worthy public education, the gap between the vulnerable sector with respect to the privileged one will hike. Therefore, my purpose in life is to use diverse tools to target the problems that affect the citizens of the developing world and give reliable and plausible solutions to achieve sustainability in terms of social development and growth. It’s time to eradicate the assumption of two worlds, the Global North, the developed world, and the Global South, the developing world. We deserve a World of opportunities, of freedom, of minorities, of diversity, of growth, not only a reality driven by a simple green paper. It’s time to humanize our world. Sounds good but it takes time and a hard effort since the only way of achieving this is with QUALITY EDUCATION, SOCIAL INVESTMENT, FOOD SECURITY, SUSTAINABILITY, AND A DEMOCRACY FOUNDED ON EN PRINCIPLES AND VALUES. Thus, social reform must be taking place in the conscience of each person because a minimum contribution can bring about enormous and extraordinary results in our World. These are my expectations and I look forward that with my intellectual preparation, I will be fruitful.
