About

To start this off, I want to say that I never want my life to be able to be summarized. One of my biggest aspirations is to build and create something that outlasts me. I truly believe my purpose in life is to make others' lives better. A way I've begun my journey is I have joining the IU Dance Marathon and have raised about $2,000, and I aspire to become a director of the program one day. I also have joined Habitat for Humanity, which helps fundraisers to build homes in the Bloomington area, the Indiana Canine Association Network (ICAN), which helps train service dogs for people with disabilities, and Animal Club, to help fundraise for animal shelters in Indiana. I am also amidst dance tryouts/lessons for three different clubs: Di:verse Dance Crew, Ballroom Dance Club, and Swing Dance Club. That is everything I've been able to accomplish within my first semester at Indiana. I once was told that college is one of the last times you'll be able to do things "just because." With the resources Indiana University provides me, it would be a shame to waste them when I know it could give me a step up on my goal.

Outside the classroom

When I have free time, one of my favorite things to do is cozy up, maybe call some friends, get some good food, and put on a movie. When people talk about self-care, it is relative to what soothes or relaxes them. For me, that is the epitome of relaxation; giving my brain and body a break while rewarding myself simultaneously. Despite having been called a grandma from time to time, I also enjoy playing mobile games. My current favorites are Sudoku, Word Cookies, and Lumosity. I enjoy brain games like these because they keep my mind focused on one thing at a time. In my everyday life, I have a habit of planning while focusing on all of them simultaneously. Skills games like these help me fixate on the challenge at hand, even if that means simply putting numbers in boxes. Another hobby of mine is listening to music. I bring my headphones with me wherever I go. I enjoy going on walks while either listening to podcasts or new types of music. If you see me on the sidewalk and ask me what I'm listening to, my answer will be different every time. I spend a cumulative about 4 hours a day listening to music while I do homework, walking to or from classes, and when I am at the gym. My current favorite artists are Michael Bublé, Taylor Swift, Alvaro Soler, and Stray Kids. I enjoy doing things in my free time to either challenge me or to help me relax.

Volunteering

  • Service Volunteer - In Costa Rica, I helped paint school classrooms, plant mangroves, dig into a mountain for rainwater filtration and clean barnacles off of turtles.

  • Independent Volunteer - GotSneakers is a company that recycles and repurposes/re-gifts old gym shoes instead of allowing them to be thrown away. I emailed every contact me and my parents had to collect old shoes to donate to GotSneakers. I wanted to keep them out of landfills and give them to the less fortunate.
