About
I am currently a Nursing student in Hostos Community College in Bronx, New York. I am in the path of earning my associates degree to become a registered nurse, after finishing my associates degree I plan to transfer to a 4 year college which will allow me to reach higher to earn my master’s degree to reach my final goals of becoming a doctor. I grew up in the largest city one Puerto Rico’s coast called Ponce. Growing up there allowed me to make connections between my culture and the new culture that I was able to emerge into when I moved to New York City. Having to move out of my home island caused me to have to adapt very quickly to a new environment with people who come from all different backgrounds, I came here not knowing much English but I worked my way into accomplishing my goal through the help of my schools ESL program and my teachers. Learning English, opened up new roads for me and I had to choose what I wanted to do with my life, through the search of career fairs and college’s admission advisors I found what I truly wanted to do in life was to contribute to my community in the best way that I can. I knew that I had a passion to care, serve, and love and to let that passion shine through me. I wanted to become an anesthesiologist and comfort those who are going through rough times getting ready for surgeries. I lost my grandfather to gastric cancer and a few days after I lost my uncle due to his medical condition of diabetes worsening and causing his leg to become infected which caused him to also have a stroke and lose his ability to speak and perform simple body movement without shaking in both of their final days they had no one there to look after them until they were found by my cousin, those days I remember thinking to myself that people deserve to live their last days knowing that they are being taken care of and are in great hands, my uncle and grandfather deserve to have been in great medical hands during their last days. My love and compassion for the care of others will guide me through my days to becoming an anesthesiologist.
