About

I am a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, in Baltimore Maryland. Throughout my high school years, I maintained a 3.0 average and have been on honor roll. I have participated in cheerleading for 4 years, Band for 2 years, Robotics for 3 years and Apparel Technology for 2 years. I also participate in Dreamers and Achievers (STEM) Program, Elijah Cummings Youth Program and Young Scientist in Training.
I am a scholarship recipient of the Henrietta Lacks Dunbar Health Science Scholarship. This scholarship offers $40,000to any 4-year college/University in the U.S ($10,000 /yr). This scholarship gave me the opportunity to join the Johns Hopkins Brain Science Internship for the summer of 2014. This was an amazing and very important award. Henrietta Lacks is known to be one of the most important women in the world. Though she has been dead for over 20 years. I believe that though her story was tragic, without her we would not have vaccinations for polio and more.
I was born in Baltimore, Maryland on September 26, 1996. I have a total of 5 brothers and sisters. I was born into foster care then adopted at the age of 4. My legal guardian is my aunt, Denne Woods. I’ve been a cheerleader since grade 5. I am a fun, silly and talented person. My favorite person in the world is my three-year-old baby sister, Zamiyah. I am active at Grace Memorial Baptist Church where I sang in the choir.
My favorite color is red. When I’m not at work or in school, I enjoy spending time with friends and participating in roller skating. I love to read. You might be surprised to learn that I like to read and skate at the same time. Another one of my favorite things to do is fashion designing. I love designing clothes! One weird fact about me… I like to organize my m&m’s by color before I eat them.
I have been accepted to West Virginia University Institute of Technology and will be majoring in forensic investigation and chemistry. This is not because I’ve grown up watching CSI, but because I see myself solving a case, putting the clues together and coming to a conclusion. Asking who, what, where, when, why and how? There are not many people who would want to major in both categories but I believe that I can my mind and spirit together and get through anything. Just this scholarship alone, two grants, and two loans. I am still trying my best to pay for the rest of my tuition. I am still applying for scholarships and grants.
