Tykia Maxwell

Greets and humble salutations, my name is Tykia Maxwell residing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I am a first year Psychology student that attends the college of "Love & Charity," Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. Before I began my embark on this new journey, I attended Dillard High School where I was an honors student that not only was in the engineering program but also digital design. I got the opportunity to become Photoshop and Dreamweaver certified while in high school and I've been tech-savvy since. I loved all the educational experiences I had in high school, but going into a new level of my life, I knew it was something I did not want to continue for the rest of my life. After my graduation from high school in June of 2015, I joined the world's largest and best armed force. If you know like me, you guessed it correct, I joined the U.S. Army as a reservist. My job in the U.S. Army is a Human Resources Specialist. Not only am I responsible for providing support that affects Soldiers’ overall welfare and well-being (while assisting leaders with keeping Soldiers combat-ready and effective), I also assist on all human resource support matters. As most would assume "Some recruiter forced her to join the Army," or "She was pressured into joining the Army," none of these assumptions influenced my decision. Instead, I truly wanted to create a better life for myself, my family, and this country. After the journey of training for the U.S. Army, I started school in the next term as soon as I could. I didn't have the right amount of credit hours to join any organizations but I do plan on being more involved this upcoming fall semester. I would love the opportunity to be apart of the Honors Society because as a minority, every chance I get to making it closer to my dreams and goals is uplifting. Knowing that it is hard to make it and be successful in today's society, this extra push would really bring me to what I been working hard to get at.
