About
My name is Tyler Tolopka, I currently have a 4.0 GPA in the BIMS Non-Thesis Master's Program at Texas A&M University, and I am aspiring to achieve acceptance into medical school in the Fall of 2017.
I completed my undergraduate degree at East Texas Baptist University, where I was a 4 year student-athlete in the NCAA DIII American Southwest Conference for Men's Tennis. During my time at ETBU, I was employed in the Athletic Office under the Athletic Director, and also was Vice President for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, where I was responsible for coordinating community outreach, including food and monetary donations for Mission Marshall.
During the summer after graduating from ETBU, I joined MD Anderson Regional Care Center in Sugar Land as a Research Intern under Dr. Craig Messick. We are currently awaiting publication in Neuromodulation Journal for our accepted Case Report regarding groundbreaking advances in Sacral Nerve Stimulation Treatment to restore cancer patients' quality of life.
Currently at Texas A&M University, along with pursuing my Master's Degree, I am employed in the Nye Learning Center as an Academic Mentor for the student athletes of TAMU. I also have completed a brief internship in the Veterinary GI Lab, and have secured a volunteer position in GameDay productions for TAMU Men's Tennis.
Though I enjoy using my connections to broaden my impact in my current environment, my primary goal is to solidify acceptance into medical school for the Fall of 2017, and finishing my Master's Degree with the help of the available scholarships provided by this prestigious Honor Society.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
I intend to be a pediatric surgeon after successfully completing medical school and the resulting internship/fellowship requirements.
- Graduate school interests
I am using my graduate program to take coursework that focuses on human physiological development, along with an appreciation for toxicological factors that can hinder normal cell proliferation/differentiation. I have extended my research experience as well, as I am currently working in the Veterinary GI Lab at Texas A&M University under the supervision of Dr. Steiner and Dr. Suchodulski.
I also am currently employed as an Academic Mentor for the student-athletes at TAMU, using my background as an inspiration to catalyze student-athlete's self-revelation of the purpose and merits of academic success in higher education.
- Outside the classroom
I enjoy playing tennis recreationally, biking, exploring nature, and using portable videography to edit and produce short movies. I look forward to continuing my intellectual growth through further academic pursuits.
