The Rome Study Abroad program from Iowa State is offered to students with an interest towards design.  Though many students are eligible to participate, the program is usually undertaken by graphic, architecture, and interior design students.   This is because these courses hold greater relevancy to the location than others.  For example, we interior design students will visit the temples and archeological sites right after learning about them in history class.  Being able to see the real thing right after learning about it will help us understand it better than reading about it from a book. While I can list numerous benefits this program will have on my academic career, I also believe it will contribute to my personal development. Since I first signed on to the program, people have been telling me that this study abroad experience will not only last forever, but will also change me and the way I see things.  If this is true and I have broadened my horizon, then this is a venture worth investing in.

Albert, an interior design major at Iowa State University, is a recipient of the HonorSociety.org Study Abroad Scholarship. Albert chose his study abroad program in Rome because he desires to study archaeological sites, and go to graduate school for historical restoration. Congratulations Albert.
