Honor Society® Expert FAQ
What is a need-based scholarship?
A need-based scholarship considers financial circumstances when awarding educational funding. The provider determines how need is assessed and may also require academic, enrollment, residency, or other qualifications.
Use the provider’s required financial process
A college may use financial aid forms and supporting documents; an outside provider may request different information. Complete the forms required for your situation and the applicable school year. Do not assume one application covers every award or that a particular household income guarantees eligibility.
If your circumstances changed after the information was reported, ask the financial aid office or provider how to request a review. Describe the change accurately rather than altering figures or leaving out required information.
Put the answer into practice
- Identify the forms and documents the provider requires.
- Use verified submission channels for sensitive information.
- Check scholarship deadlines separately from financial aid deadlines.
- Ask how an award would interact with your other assistance.
Keep private financial documents out of public essays or profiles unless a verified application specifically requires them. If the process is confusing, request a list of the exact missing items from the provider before sending additional records.
