Honor Society® Expert FAQ
Can international students apply for US scholarships?
Yes. Some US colleges and outside providers offer scholarships open to international students. Eligibility is program-specific, so check citizenship, residency, country, degree level, and enrollment requirements rather than assuming all US awards are available.
Start with each college’s international funding policy
Ask whether international applicants are considered for merit awards, need-based assistance, or both, and which forms are required. A separate deadline or financial documentation process may apply. Do not assume the financial aid process for domestic applicants is the same.
Compare the full cost of attendance and the written award conditions. A partial scholarship may still leave a substantial funding gap. Check renewal, payment timing, and any requirements connected to proving available funds with the appropriate college office.
Put the answer into practice
- Review international eligibility at each target college.
- Check external awards for country and residency restrictions.
- Prepare documents in the requested format.
- Ask how the offer affects your remaining cost and required funding documentation.
Use the award comparison guide for a cost-by-cost review. Confirm personal eligibility with the provider before investing time in an application or relying on expected funding.
