Honor Society® Expert FAQ

Are remote internships worthwhile?

A remote internship can be worthwhile when it provides clear responsibilities, regular feedback, access to needed systems, and work you can learn from. Being remote does not by itself make an internship stronger or weaker.

Look for supervision, access, and meaningful work

Ask how interns meet their supervisor, collaborate with colleagues, and get help when blocked. A defined project and recurring check-ins are more useful than being left alone with vague tasks. Confirm working hours, time-zone expectations, equipment, security requirements, and whether the role permits work from your location.

Consider your own setup: reliable internet, a suitable workspace, and enough structure to manage tasks independently. Save only work you are authorized to keep, and request permission before using employer material in a portfolio. Evaluate learning and support alongside convenience.

Your next steps

  • Ask for a sample week and supervision schedule.
  • Confirm equipment, location rules, hours, and pay.
  • Agree on a project, feedback milestones, and permitted work samples.
