Honor Society Study Aboad Scholarship - Algenia in Italy

I am so excited to be studying abroad in Florence, Italy this summer. This has been something I have wanted to do for as long as I remember because my Grandparents on both sides of my family moved here from Italy. So I have grown up learning about the language and culture from the stories they told. Now, I am finally going to be to be able to travel to Italy and experience the things I have been told about my whole life. My grandparents are so proud and happy that I am studying there. I am very blessed that my family is allowing me to take advantage of this program even though it is extremely costly to my family right now because my Dad has recently lost his job.  But my parents are very loving and supporting because this is a perfect study abroad option for me. This is because I am majoring in ‘international studies’ with a minor in ‘Italian.’ This program is extremely relevant to my major because in order to get the degree, I must partake in at least one study abroad program as an undergraduate and have a minor in a foreign language. With my minor being Italian, this course fits perfectly. Earning this scholarship means  so much to my family and I.

Algenia, an HonorSociety.org member and study abroad scholarship recipient, from the University of Alabama describes her 6 weeks in Italy. Highlights of the program for her included visiting the Sistine Chapel, climbing Mount Vesuvius, hiking from city to city in Cinque Terre, and seeing opera in Verona.
